Promoted Langley Manor could barely buy a run or snare a wicket in May – but they’ve hit form since with four straight British Gas Southern League Division 2 wins.
Their latest victims were promotion hopefuls Hartley Wintney, who were rushed out for 100 and beaten by nine wickets at Knellers Lane.
Ben Morgan (2-5) ripped out Kiwi run getter Henry Collier and Danny Plume in quick succession and it was largely due to fourth-wicket pair Danny Flanders (31) and Dan Bowles (19) that HW got any form of score on the board at all.
Once their rally ended, Chris Thomason (3-17) cut through the lower order to reduce Hartley Wintney to 100 all out.
Langley quickly lost Azeem Hamid, but Conor Browne (42) and South African Saulieg Reyned, with an unbeaten 52, produced a match winning century partnership.
The Manor’s victory was a boost for local rivals Totton & Eling, who enjoy a 19-point lead at the top.
They bounced back from a first defeat at Hartley Wintney by chasing down Trojans’ 213 to win by four wickets at Southern Gardens.
Nigel le Bas (51) and Syed Mahmood (28) eased Trojans to 104-1 before the visitors suffered a three-wicket wobble. Initiated by Kumodak Sharma (3-38) who removed both batsmen.
Dan Babidge (41) and James Truscott (30) restored order, but Trojans stumbled from 178-4 to 213 all out, teenage left-arm spinner Ethan Taylor (left)(4-43) cutting through the lower order.
Mark Mbofana, with a 13-boundary 84, led Totton’s victory chase, supported by James Taylor (33) and Dan Clouting (29).
