The combined Sway/Lymington side won the Hampshire Under-17 Kerry Cup with a thrilling four-wicket win over Parley, clinching with two balls to spare. Skipper Tom Burton was the hero, hitting lofted straight boundary as the New Forest teenagers successfully chased down Parley’s 142-5 in the nick of time. Parley, who had posted 155-6 on the way to beating Havant by 44 runs in the semi-finals, began confidently through Luke Neill (33) and Tom Saunders (39), but Josh Bailey (2-24) produced a game changing spell of spin which changed the shape of the game. Louis Bragginton hit an unbeaten 42 to steer Parley to 142-5 (Tom Sykes 2-22). Josh Royan (35) and Dan Bailey (16) responded in kind for Sway/Lymington by scoring 42 off five overs, the former helping Tom Sykes (24) take the total to 79 off 11 overs when Parley broke through. The asking rate climbed to nine runs an over as Sway required 43 more off five overs. Josh Bailey, whose 49 had been key in the semi-final victory over Fair Oak, then launched an aerial assault, wreaking damage on parked cars on the May’s Bounty boundary edge, as he cleared the rope twice – only to be caught off in the deep another towering shot. Burton (17*) was joined by Ben Paxton (7) and they pushed the score on to 138 in the penultimate over when Paxton was run out and Jude Tollerfield came to the crease. With five runs required off the final over became three off three when Burton struck the ball back over the bowler’s head to clinch a thrilling four-wicket victory.
