A miserly spell of left-arm bowling by Mark Lavelle, who took 3-13 off his ten overs, put the clamp on Hook & Newnham Basics' normally free scoring batsmen and set up a close run victory for Calmore Sports at Loperwood Park.
Lavelle came into the Calmore attack in the eighth over with Hook - chasing 192 - settled at 61-1, Sam Lockwood (26) having got stuck into the opening bowlers.
But Calmore's Village Cup Lord's winning captain of 2021, quickly whipped out Harry Warner (20) and Oli James with consecutive deliveries - three wickets falling for six runs.
Matt Buckingham (44) drove the visitors onto 137-4, by which time Calmore had their four spinners in full swing, the two Liams, Aussie O'Connor and the home grown Carty taking two wickets each as Hook fell away.
Hampshire U15 prospect Alex Corbett had a fine SPL debut behind the stumps for Hook, scoring 28 after snapping up two stumpings and a catch behind the stumps.
He was eventually eighth out as Hook lost their last three wickets for one run and were 177 all out. Liam Carty and Liam O'Connor took two wickets each.
Calmore had earlier rallied from 117-5 (Ben Johns 38) to post 192, Max Bailey (36) at the forefront of the recovery despite Ollie May's 3-41 return.

These are trying times for New Milton, who collapsed to their sixth defeat in a row after being bundled out for a meagre 64 at Rowledge, a round trip of 120 or so miles.
Milton lost a wicket to Richard Forbes (3-22) and never recovered. Connor Cook (3-12) and David Lloyd sent down mean spells as the visitors capsized in the 35th over.
Rowledge hadn’t won themselves since mid-May, so the sight of Zac LeRoux (32*) and Oli Ryman (22*) getting them across the line was a warm one.
