Former South Wilts pace bowler Luke Evans was injured and unable to bowl for his adopted Australian club St Patrick’s this weekend – but that didn’t prevent him from playing a key role in his team’s 64-run win over New City in the Cricket Albury Wodonga Premiership.
Elevated to number five in the batting order because of a tweaked quad, Evans arrived at the crease with St Patrick’s 92-3 and went on to top score before being the last man out for 58 off 49 balls.
He hit two sixes and six boundaries, ushering the St Patrick’s middle and lower order through to a match winning 225-9.
Shoaib Shaikh, who has past experience playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, slammed 111, but his team-mates mustered only 50 runs between them. New City were dismissed for 161.
