Portsmouth Grammar School’s Chris Pratt (left) arrived at the Ripsley Park crease with Hambledon wobbling at 21-3 and hit a career-best 90 – but even his efforts were unable to prevent hosts Liphook & Ripsley cruising to a three-wicket Southern Premier League Cup East 2/3 victory.
When Pratt departed, Hambledon were 190-6. He barely had time to remove his pads and gloves before the last four wickets fell for six runs as the visitors were dismissed for 196.
Liphook’s early dismissals included Norwegian run gun Henry Glanfield, who had backed himself heavily to make 75. He stroked one boundary before nicking a catch behind to Harry Munt off Charles Jancur (2-37) and fall (agonisingly) a mere 70 runs short of winning a costly treble bet with a thirsty website editor.
George Neave (2-25) had earlier nipped out openers George Marshall and Spencer le Clerq.
Hitting four sixes and 12 boundaries, Pratt pushed the Hambledon total along, with Oli Willoughby (21) and Simon Barnard (25 not out) providing the only significant support as Sean Burton (2-16) and Jamie Hall created inroads.
Munt (36) and Neave (33) top scored as Liphook overhauled the target with 12 overs to spare – the 28 wides they sent down giving a firm indication of how indifferent Hambledon’s bowling was.
