Lymington have signed exciting 20-year old South African left-hand all-rounder Ximus du Plooy as their overseas player for the upcoming ECB Southern Premier League season.
He is the younger brother of Derbyshire’s Leus de Plooy, who scored 98 for Derbyshire against Worcestershire in the County Championship yesterday.
Like his elder sibling, Ximus hails from the famous Affies Afrikaan school in Pretoria, where AB de Villiers and Faf de Plessis learned their trade.
Du Plooy, left, who has represented Northerns in South African provincial age group cricket, is currently training with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl and is hoping to play some second team cricket shortly.
This will be du Plooy’s third summer in English cricket, having underlined his talent by scoring 569 runs and taking 45 wickets with his leg spin to help the Scunthorpe-based Appleby Frodingham win the Yorkshire Senior League title in 2019.
He spent last the covid truncated summer with top Derbyshire League club Ockbrook & Borrowash, nursing a broken finger for three weeks of the shortened season.
Du Plooy will meet his new Lymington team-mates at next Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Fawley and make his competitive debut against the Hampshire Academy on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground on May 1.
Lymington have also signed New Milton wicketkeeper Luke Mortimore, who will make his debut, on Saturday against ... New Milton at Fernhill !
