James Taylor starred with bat and ball as Totton & Eling enhanced their Southern Premier League Division 2 title claims with an emphatic 127-run victory over seemingly doomed Langley Manor.
He glued Totton’s 192-7 together with a patient 74 and, after eldest son Ethan had returned 3-7 off his ten overs, weighed in with a 4-21 return with the ball as the Manor sank to 65 all out.
Early strikes by the miserly Ben Morgan (3-15 off ten) and Simon Peters (3-66) left Totton in early trouble at 42-4, but Taylor’s 74 (one six and 11 fours), aided by a fine supporting knock by former Bryanston star Oli Thomas (41), lifted them out of the mire. Handy knocks by Sam Bracey and Billy Lightfoot saw Totton on to 192-7.
Langley Manor, now 53 points adrift of the nearest safety rung at the bottom of the table, rolled over for a meagre 65, with the father and son Taylor combination taking seven of the wickets.

Totton effectively lead St Cross Symondians II by 43 points – the Winchester club maintaining their promotion claim with a Jason Laney inspired 84-run win over fourth-placed Paultons.
The former Hampshire opener hit 102 – ironically, his first hundred under the St Cross flag – and shared a century partnership with Harry Trussler (48) steering his side to 222-5 (George Condon 3-32).
It needed Tom Smart (60) to hold the Paultons reply of 138 together, as Dave Orchard (3-37), Will Lewis (2-11) and Toby Zapp (2-4) made regular inroads.
Liphook & Ripley’s challenge subsided with a 73-run defeat by Hartley Wintney, whose South African teenager Jason Knibbs was the star turn.
The Johannesburg youngster top scored with 59 in HW’s 226 and then took a mean 3-12 as Liphook crumbed from 82-0 (Rob Nicklin 53/Chris Martin 35) to 153 all out.
