Matt Taylor struck a remarkable 79 not out as Hook & Newnham Hurricanes snatched a remarkable one-wicket victory from the snapping jaws of defeat against the county Development side in the Ageas Bowl NatWest Under-16 Indoor League.
All appeared lost when the impressive Ayush Bose (3-20) took two wickets in successive balls to leave Hook, chasing 122, reeling at 57-5 in the sixth over of their reply.
But Taylor, pictured, refused to give in, calmly scoring at ten runs or more per over and gradually easing Hook towards the target.
At 105-5 with an over still left, Taylor still had plenty of his plate, but he efficiently clipped 19 runs off Tom South’s last six balls to get the Hurricanes home.
Spinner Charlie Neville (3-16) shone again as Hook won their second game against South East Hants U15s with some comfort, while South, with 2-18 and an unbeaten 23, got the Development team home after an early wobble against the SEH district fledglings.
