Hampshire’s Lewis McManus, left, has burst into New Year form for his adopted Australian club Camberwell Magpies in Melbourne’s Victorian Premiership Grade competition.
Since the turn of the year, he’s rattled off three fifty-plus scores, 74 against Greenvale Kangaroos, 58 off 41 balls in the narrow Vic Super Slam defeat by St Kilda, and last weekend 51 (plus three catches) in Magpies’ win over Dandenong.
Team-mate Joe Weatherley’s Ringwood, meanwhile, experienced a bad day at the office and were rushed out for 94 by Melbourne, having been 26-6 at one stage. Ian Holland missed the match.
Up on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Tom Scriven hit 47 as Broadbeach Robina, skippered by Felix Organ, easily defeated Palm Beach, presumably with the Beach Boys playing in the background !
Portsmouth’s Fraser Hay hit 58 and later took two wickets, but was unable to spare Melville a 17-run defeat by Rockingham Mandurah in the WACA First Grade.
St Cross Symondians all-rounder Jack Bransgrove returned a best-yet 4-64 for Brighton on day one of the sub-district encounter with Oakleigh (254-9). He has now taken 16 wickets for the seaside club.
Lymington’s Ryan Scott struck his second half-century of 2019 for Norwood, but South Wilts’ pace bowler Luke Evans may have bowled his last ball in anger after damaging a hamstring in Parkdale’s defeat by South Caufield.
Ben Draper, who made a century in his Parkdale debut, is desperately searching for runs, as is Bournemouth’s Luke Matthews playing for St Peter’s Old Boys in Adelaide’s West End competition.
