CAPTAIN Chris Park has recalled predecessor Martin Miller as Bournemouth seek to add some fireworks to their top order for the Chapel Gate clash with "dangerous" Ventnor.
Miller dismantled Locks Heath's attack with an exhibition of clean, powerful hitting on his way to an unbeaten 106 for the Lions' second XI last Saturday.
On the same weekend, Park's troops crashed to a third British Gas Southern League Division 1 defeat in four games, losing by 32 runs at lowly Tichborne Park.
Nevertheless, Bournemouth remain in the Division One title picture thanks to their strong start to the season – and Park admits it is imperative for his team to rediscover the winning touch this weekend.
He said: "The lads are really eager to get back out there after the disappointment of last week. We have spoken a lot since that match and are determined to recover our team ethos and get our confidence back.
"Martin Miller is coming into the team after his great hundred last week – and we have Ben Bridgen back to open the batting as well.
"Ventnor are a dangerous side and we cannot underestimate anybody in this league. We have not faced a weak team this year – every game we have played could have gone either way.
"We have won when we have played well but in the three games we lost, we deserved what we got."
Another opening batsman, Andy Hayward, misses the game – a family holiday taking him away one week after he marked his maiden first-team appearance this season by cracking a half-century.
Rob Pack has not shaken off his gym-sustained hamstring injury, while Exeter University's cricket tour of Barbados rules out number three Luke Matthews. Jez Warner, however, is back from Durham University and is a perfect replacement for Pack.
Nevertheless, Park accepts that juggling players is a prerequisite skill for any club cricket captain.
"Andy has probably had his holiday booked for months and it’s come at a time when he’s just got in the team and scored a 50, but that's life," added Park.
"But we have 16-17 good players and rotation is a big part of club cricket.
"As long as we're playing good cricket, I'd back us to beat anybody in this league. I just want the boys to get back to playing well individually, and for the team to start performing collectively – then I'm sure that'll culminate in a run of wins."
Bournemouth: N Park, Bridgen, Miller, C Park, Woodruff, Hurley, Bollom, Jones, Clutterbuck, Michalowski, Warner.
Ventnor: Woodhouse, Cheek, Van Greunen, Miller, Westhorpe, H Calloway, Corbin, Snell, A Horton, Zeph Wells, Willis.
