A remarkable stand of 121 between last pair Ryan Stevenson and Ajeet Dale paved the way for Hampshire’s seven-wicket Second XI County Championship victory over Middlesex on the Ageas Bowl Nursery ground.
Having dismissed Middlesex for 181 (James Fuller 4-57), Hampshire appeared set for only a modest lead when Newbury teenager Toby Albert (pictured above)(93) and Fuller (50) steered them to 249-9, Berkshire trialist Toby Greatwood taking 5-79.
But an astonishing tenth wicket stand saw Stevenson crack three sixes and nine fours scoring 81 and Dale make a supporting 43 to hoist the Hampshire total to 370 all out.
Middlesex made 308 in their second knock – Hilton College pace bowler John Turner (3-68) dismissing three of the visitors’ top five – leaving Hampshire a comfortable victory target of 120, achieved with Academy all-rounder Tom Prest hitting 51 not out.
