Fletcha Middleton hit an unbeaten 91 and shared an undefeated century partnership with George Metzger as Hampshire Under-17s thrashed their Middlesex counterparts by eight wickets to reach the final of the ECB Cup.
Middleton struck a six and eight fours in his 91, his 122-run stand with Metzger (56 not out) easing Hampshire past the Middlesex total of 213 with six overs to spare.
Hampshire’s bid for victory and a cup final place did not begin well, with the in-form Tom Prest trapped leg before for a duck.
But left-hander Tom South hit 50 and added 88 with Middleton as Hampshire began to take charge.
Earlier, Prest’s off-spin (2-35) brought significant rewards when the Canford teen dismissed Josh de Caires (son of former England captain Michael Atherton) before Middlesex dipped to 109-6. Mo Abbas (3-45) and Bradfield’s Cam Khanna (3-60) shared six wickets.
Hampshire’s Under-17 Cup final opponents are Northants, who beat Lancashire by 65 runs in the other semi-final.
