Jacob Harris starred with bat and ball before admitting that his lead role in Gosport Borough's 83-run win over Hythe & Dibden had largely been down to the 'motivational pep talk' he had enjoyed two evenings earlier.
He hit 72 and later took three Hythe & Dibden wickets as Gosport Borough got their first Southern Premier Division 3 win points on the board. The Watersiders remain winless.
"I felt really positive, particularly with the bat, after going for a couple of beers with a South African cricket coach on the Thursday evening when we chatted about the importance of PPP. It had a real impact on me and I was really in the grove when I arrived at Privett Park," he explained.
Harris, pictured, who enjoyed an outstanding 2019 Hampshire League season, hit two maximums and 12 fours in his 72 (only his third competitive fifty-plus score) as Gosport, after a good start by Lee Harrop (25) and timely finish from Mark Toogood, with 39 not out, posted 197-6.
The young Borough all-rounder then knocked over key Hythe opener Tom Gates. The visitors' top four batsmen hit 12 boundaries between them but lost wickets all too regularly, dipping from 62-2 (Matt Young 32) to 114 all out, the Creal twins taking five wickets alongside hero Harris's 3-43.
