Dan Mugford produced an outstanding all-round performance to ease Hambledon out of trouble and into the national rounds of the Voneus Village Cup with a five-wicket win over Ventnor in the Hampshire county final.
Having taken 4-14 with the new ball, Mugford stepped in as Hambledon lurched from 28 without loss to 40-5 in response to Ventnor's 108 all out.
With some sensible batting and Dons skipper Spencer LeClercq (28 not out) a reliable partner, Mugford hit an unbeaten 46 to guide Hambledon to victory without further loss.
Earlier. Henry Bartlett (27)and Dan Cox (24) top scored for Ventnor, with Henry Glanfield and George Harding each taking two wickets for Hambledon.
Next up for the unbeaten Southern Premier Division 2 leaders is a home tie against big hitting Dorset/Wiltshire group winners Goatacre, who posted a massive 348-3 against Avebury.
Leading thern spree was Ross Dixie, who hit 13 of his team's 20 sixes in his innings of 171. Former Andover cricketer Alex Ayres made 69 of Avebury's 201 all out.
Hambledon will host Goatacre at Ridge Meadow on Sunday week, June 23.
