Namish Verma, pictured, came to the rescue as Waterlooville collapsed but then recovered to beat hosts Ventnor by 32 runs in the ECB Royal London national club championship at Steephill.
The Ville looked settled enough at 89-2 (Jon Hudson 24), but a four-wicket spell by Dan Russell (4-19) sent them crashing to 105-7 before Verma appeared at nine in the order to smack 41 and hoist the mainlanders' total to 184.
Ventnor's reply followed a similar pattern. Wobbling at 11-2, they eased to 91-3 through Martin Blackman (32), Chris Russell (40) and Hugh Calloway (43).
But from 104-4 they also collapsed, the heroic Verma running out Calloway t effectively win the game for the Ville. Ventnor were 152 all out.
