A new cricket book, entitled Changing Rooms 2, brimming with colour photographs of the pavilions of all 369 club grounds across Hampshire (and just beyond), has been published to coincide with the start of the new season.
It’s the culmination of almost 20 years ‘labour of love’ by its author Chandler’s Ford-based local cricket supporter Bobby Elliott and will be launched at the IBM Hursley Sports & Social Club, Hursley on Friday evening, 6pm.
It’s Elliott’s second cricket publication and the Big Brother of the fascinating book he produced last summer detailing all the grounds on which Hampshire’s county first and second teams had played.
He explained: “Back in 1998 I decided to take a photograph of the pavilion at each of the grounds I visited.
“Initially, I started photographing Hampshire League grounds that I had played at, and it grew from there.
“In 2006 I made a big effort, but still had loads to do. I then thought it would be unique to photograph every club ground.
“I’ve long lost count of the number of miles I’ve driven to collate the book, but it runs into many thousands – talk about a labour of love !”
Twenty years on, Mr Elliott has published his latest book which documents 'Cricket Pavilions of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight', including every ground on which Hampshire League cricket was played in 2016
The high quality 376-page publication not only includes masses of photographs but explores the social history of each of the clubs it features.
“I called a halt at 369 grounds and decided to send it to print,” Mr Elliott chuckled.
The book, generously priced £20, will be on sale at the Hampshire Ageas Bowl shop and other outlets starting at Sunday’s pre-season friendly match against Cardiff MCCU.
It is also on sale at Holt & Haskell (Shirley High Street) and Trophyman (Sholing), and from Bob himself : [email protected]
