New Milton all-rounder Ed Bartlett returned career-best figures of 6-53 as Dorset took a firm grip of their three-day NCCA Championship match against Shropshire at Wimborne.
He took four of the last six wickets to fall as Shropshire plunged from 210-4 to 261 all out in response to Dorset's towering 435-2 built around a third-wicket stand of 415 between Bath's Sam Young (217*) and David Scott (183*) which broke numerous records. Jacob Gordon hit 58 of Dorset's second innings 210-7 declared.
George Hargrave produced a record-breaking performance to take Shropshire to a stunning five wickets win on the final day. The left-hand Oxford University opener, who hit a treble century in a recent Varsity Match, became the first batter in the history of a competition that dates back to 1895 to score a double century and a century in a match.
Thanks to Hargrave’s 201 Shropshire chased down a target of 385 - their highest fourth innings total – inside 84 overs to win a match in which they had been behind for the first two days.
Dorset play Wiltshire in a three-day match at South Wilts, starting on Sunday.
