Hampshire Cricket has given the Isle of Wight’s Newclose ground a pre-Christmas boost by announcing more early season matches at the Blackwater venue on the outskirts of Newport.
The ground is already set to host an attractive four-day County Championship match between Hampshire and Nottinghamshire, starting on Monday May 20 2019.
Before that, Newclose will host a Second XI 50-over Trophy tie on Monday April 29, followed by a three-day Second XI Championship match, beginning the following day, April 30. The opposition has yet to be confirmed.
As a further boost to island cricket, at least four of the Hampshire Academy’s ECB Southern Premier League matches are to be played at Newclose, during May and June when the Ageas Bowl is being used for the ICC World Cup. The Premier League fixtures are normally published towards the end of the calendar year.
