Josh Hill starred with bat and ball as Sarisbury Athletic moved to within one win of a place in the Lord’s final of the National Village Cup with a 50-run victory over North Perrott at Allotment Road.
He struck a superb century at the top of Sarisbury’s challenging 234-7 and then took two wickets and a diving catch as the Somerset side fell 50 runs short at 184 all out.
George Retter became the quarter-final’s second centurion when he led North Perrott’s plucky run chase with 100.
Hill, who struck a double century in Sarisbury’s crushing second county round win over Bramshaw, hit two sixes and 11 fours in his powerfully struck 101 and featured in two significant partnerships which underpinned the Sarisbury total.
He added 61 for the second wicket with Sam Floyd (25) and crucially 97 with Matt Journeaux (47) before being the first of three suicidal run outs at the end of the Sarisbury innings.
Retter largely fought a lone battle to keep North Perrott’s own Lord’s dream alive.
Knocked out at the corresponding last eight stage by Liphook & Ripsley last season, the West of England Premier League side progressed nicely to 60-1, but lost three wickets in quick succession to spin duo Tom Kitcher (3-42) and Sam Hill (2-37) and were on the back foot thereafter.
The asking rate climbed, but all the time Retter remained at the crease North Perrott remained a threat, but at 157-6 the tiring opener, who brought up his century with a hooked six clear over the adjoining Allotment Road, was bowled next ball by the influential Josh Hill. His gallant ton contained four sixes and eight fours.
Stacey Hawes (19) produced a late flurry but was eventually bowled by Phil Jewell (2-43) with North Perrott 184 all out.
