Lymington are without their Master Blaster opener Malcolm Lake for the eye catching ECB British Gas Southern Premier League match against reinvigorated South Wilts at the Sports Ground, 11am.
The powerful Oxford MCCU left-hander has returned to his native Zimbabwe for six weeks or so and it not expected back until the final two ‘white ball’ 50-over matches of the season.
That’s good news for Premier League bowlers, who have been on the receiving end of a 350-run onslaught in the five matches Lake has played.
Lake’s runs, which included an unbeaten 171 on debut at New Milton, has powered Lymington into second place in the Premier log, nine points behind Bashley (Rydal), who leapt to the top last weekend when Lymington were held to a draw at Havant.
Ben Rogers and Ryan Scott, who missed the Havant draw, return for Lymington.
South Wilts, in third place but closing the gap fast after three straight wins, are without Steve Warner, who took 5-25 when the Bemerton side crushed Havant a fortnight ago.
Hampshire’s Ian Holland, who hit a maiden County Championship fifty against Surrey at The Oval this week, is named in a provisional South Wilts team, but skipper James Hibberd anticipates left-arm seamer Matt Burton will more than likely play.
“I fancy Dutchy will be footsore after the Oval, so we’ve got Matty on stand by,” Hibberd explained.
The second v third clash coincides with the opening of Lymington Sports Ground’s new clubhouse and pavilion, which the cricketers will share with AFC Lymington’s footballers.
Lymington: Beetham, Rogers, Hand, Scott, Dickinson, Lock, Ellis, Metcalfe, Robertson, Layman, Freeman.
South Wilts: Wade, Cowley, Mynott, Holland, Draper, Hayward, Arnold, Hibberd, Evans, Murray, Richards.
Leaders Bashley (Rydal) host Burridge at the BCG – with three front liners potentially missing. Mike Porter and Chris Ridley are believed to be absentees, while Tom Barber’s inclusion in the Middlesex T20 squad makes him a doubt.
