Skipper Oli Blandford, pictured, led from the front with three key knocks as Team Solent stormed into the British Universities Indoor Cricket sixes semi-finals at Cardiff in February.
He starred with both bat and ball as Solent won all seven matches in the BUCS Southern group at Fleming Park.
His unbeaten 41 lifted Solent from a desperate 47-5 to a match winning 88-5 against Portsmouth (85-5), who fell three runs short in a dramatic last ball finish.
He then top scored with 30 as Solent posted 104-4 against Chichester, Bashley (Rydal) skipper Michael Porter taking 2-14 after making a handy 26 not out. Chichester made 88-4.
Blandford was able to sit back and watch Richard Locke (27) and Rob Walters (25) polish off Southampton University’s 79-5 (Porter 2-4), but was the front man again, bailing Solent (86) out with an undefeated 51 against the Wessex II side, who scored 68-3 in reply.
Porter (2-14) claimed his third two-wicket haul in Solent’s 18-run win.
Having beaten Bournemouth, Brighton and Portsmouth II in their previous matches, Team Solent completed the group with a perfect seven-match winning record.
Success in the indoor cricket arena was only one part of an outstanding weekend on the sporting field for Southampton Solent University.
Team Solent’s soccer team are through to the last 32 of the FA Vase – and a home tie with Croydon on January 7 -after beating Bodmin Town 1-0.
They also enjoyed success in both men’s and women’s basketball and on the rugby field.
