Jet lagged Oli Knight flew overnight from Florida into London Gatwick – but was wide awake to crack an unbeaten 90 and lead Langley Manor to a 53-run win over local British Gas Southern League Division 2 rivals Paultons.
Knight barely got into sleep on the inbound flight, but strode to the crease with the Manor 61-3 and belted a six and 13 fours in what proved a match winning knock.
He saw seven batting team-mates come and go, but virtually single-handedly steered Langley Manor to 187 all out and an eventual third straight win.
Left-hander Nigel Feltham responded with 65, but Paultons lost four wickets for 12 runs in mid-stream and sank to 134 all out against Luke Mooney (4-29) and Tom Spencer (3-4).
The cricketing Haworth brothers locked horns when St Cross Symondians II entertained Sparsholt at the Green Jackets Ground.
The pair went into head-to-head combat with the new ball, without success. But when it came to run scoring youngest sibling Mike top scored with 70 for Sparsholt, but despite making 36, Mark’s St Cross side won the match by 36 runs.
St Cross defended 209 through Paul Hawkins (56) and former Hampshire opener Jason Laney (47).
Sparsholt were steaming to victory at 130-2 with Haworth junior (70) and Jerry Frith (40) going well, but lost eight wickets for 37 runs and were 167 all out.
Charlie King’s half-century guided OTs & Romsey to a five-wicket win at South Wilts II, who remain bottom of the table.
Teenager spinner Joe Vaughan (4-26) and left-armer Mark Bampton (3-28) starred with the ball as SW were dismissed for 152 – a total OTs polished off.
