Felix Organ flayed a century off only 54 balls as a young Hampshire Academy side piled up a plentiful 320-4 to beat Ventnor by 115 runs in a 45-over pre-Southern Premier League friendly at Steephill.
The Canford spin all-rounder hit four sixes and 12 fours in his 105, scored after Ben Duggan (63) and South Wilts prospect Miles Kantolinna (74) had compiled a 135-run opening partnership.
Ben Woodhouse hit 60 of Ventnor’s 205-9, while Old Netley & Highfield youngster Tom South took 3-25 in his first match in county colours.
Another teen, South Wilts 17-year old starlet William Wade took most of the credits, batting through the entire innings to finish with 98 not out against Corsham at Bemerton.
He hit a six and ten four in his 45-over stay at the crease, seeing SW drop to 119-5 before Rob Franklin (27) and Sam Pittman (21) helped Wade push the final score to 194.
South African Dwaine Fielding took a handy 6-18 for Corsham, whose top order was rocked by Luke Evans, taking 3-15 with the new ball. Corsham were 82-4 when rain caused the match to be abandoned.
Tom Gates, who has joined Bashley (Rydal) from Fawley, is making quite an impression at his new club.
Having top scored in the previous week’s win over Burridge, Gates hit 97 as Bashley defeated visiting Surrey Championship side Normandy by 52 runs.
It was just as well Gates, who hit two sixes and 12 fours, did get his runs – because the other ten Bashley batsmen contributed just 37 runs between them !
But with Kevin Nash turning back the clock with a 5-25 return, Bashley’s 162 proved too many for Normandy, who were dismissed for 110.
Andy Mash, who topped the Hampshire League bowling charts last summer, carried off from where he left off with a 4-14 which helped Premier Division 3 newcomers Fair Oak win by three wickets at Sarisbury Athletic.
Mash and Assad Abbas (3-22) took the bowling spoils as Sarisbury were dismissed for 128 (Ricky Rawlins 31) – a target Oak polished off, with most of their batsmen spending time at the crease.
