Dorset Under-17 raised Owen Morris (left) hit an unbeaten 91 to steer Totton & Eling to a four-wicket victory over Southern Premier League Division 2 visitors Waterlooville, who looked at one stage as they might defend a modest 166 at Southern Gardens.
Totton slipped to 94-6 in reply, but Chichester University student Morris, having (at 51-4) added handy runs with Billy Lightfoot (26), guided his side home without further loss, scoring a lion’s share of the 73 needed.
Earlier, the Ville, going nicely at 82-1 through Cole Abrahams (32) and Dan Birch (31), dropped to 110-6 with Lightfoot taking 3-35 before Max Goddard (30) partially revived their fortunes. Oli Thomas, like Morris late of Bryanston, snapped up five victims in a slick performance behind the stumps.
Rob Pitman, who led South Wilts to this winter’s ECB indoor sixes finals at Lord’s, played a key role in the promoted Bemerton second string’s 30-run win over Paultons.
He top scored with 36 before producing key figures of 3-15 off 9.3 overs.
Equally significant were the late innings roles played by Ben Fisher (25) and James Wade (28), who guided SW from 149-7 (Tom Berzins 35, Raff Hussey 28) to a match winning 190-8.
Paultons tumbled to 78-7 before Scott Dawes battered three sixes in a quick-fire 50 which lifted the visitors to 160. Tom Pearce returned 3-45.
