Fawley’s Andy Parratt stole the show, top scoring with 78, snapping up two catches and a direct hit run out as Hampshire Seniors maintained their 100 per cent record in the ECB 50-plus County Championship with a 129-run victory over the Isle of Wight at Hook & Newnham Basics’ KG V Ground, the farthest distance the visitors could have travelled from the ferry-port.
Parratt, left, hit a six and 11 fours in his run-a-ball 78 and shared a century opening stand with Andy Worth (40) which set Hampshire up for a towering 303-3.
Stu Shapland joined Parratt as they maintained the impetus flaying the bowling to all parts. When Parratt (78) departed after an excellent knock, Matt Thankachan (61*) stepped up to further increase the Islander’s agony. Shapland (57) holed out in the deep and it was left to Keith Harsham (30*) to take the score past 300 & a virtually unassailable total.
In reply the Isle of Wight, who had battled manfully in the field, lost wickets at regular intervals, with skipper Nick Gargaro (3-41) and Andre Manders (2-19) the main wicket takers with Parratt starring in the field with two catches & a direct hit run out.
The highlight of the Islander’s innings was without doubt an all run FIVE off the bowling of Gargaro as two nameless Hampshire athletes (rumoured to be from Bashley (Rydal) and Sparsholt, respectively - were left treading water in their attempt to retrieve the ball.
With full points and qualification to the knockout stages assured, the Seniors will be looking for a clean sweep as they tackle Wiltshire at Marlborough CC on Tuesday 16 July next.
