Teenage talent Elliott Ponting hit his second match winning knock in three weeks to underpin a successful 234-run chase for Langley Manor, which ended any prospects Waterlooville had of featuring in the end-of-season Southern Premier League Division 2 promotion race.
Ponting, who made 80 in the Manor’s victory over Trojans last month, hit 70 in a five-wicket Knellers Lane win.
Waterlooville had been pressing champions-elect Sparsholt and Rowledge all season long, but a fifth defeat has consigned them to a mid-table spot.
Despite dropping to 59-4 (Luke Mooney 2-31), Ville looked set for a decent total when Australian Alex Smith (81) and skipper Jon Hudson (66) took their score to 168-5.
But when Jack Budd (4-56) broke through, the visitors fell away to 233 all out, with Ashan Silva (23) adding useful late runs.
Langley Manor were 69-1 (James Purnell 24) when Ponting arrived at the crease.
The youngster enjoyed fruitful stands with Conor Browne (33) and Budd (35 not out), but significantly took the lead role in both, easing the Manor towards a five-wicket win achieved with three overs to spare.
Ponting left Steve Harris (25 not out|) to complete the formalities.
The win moved the Manor into mid-table, just above Paultons, who drove another nail into Trojans’ relegation coffin with a six-wicket win.
Jack Murrell (4-37) removed Trojans lost opening pair Ed Boyd and Shafiq Uria for ducks before Syed Mahmood (65) and James Truscott (53) shared a century stand which formed the basis of their 191 all out.
Andrew Denney (3-33) cleaned up the tail with a hat-trick.
Cameron Grierson’s breezy 41 got Paultons off to a flier. Robbie Pike made 49, before Nathan Feltham finished it off with an all-boundary 30 not out.
