Seam bowler Steve Warner has left ECB Southern Premier League champions South Wilts to join Division 1 club Portsmouth as a player/coach.
Now living in Locks Heath with his young family, Warner is already well into his winter coaching, with Portsmouth holding senior and junior training at St John’s College, Southsea, on Sundays.
Warner played for South Wilts for 13 seasons from 2009, taking 216 wickets in Southern Premier League and cup matches.
"We are sad to see Warns move on, but he has got a great opportunity to coach and play at another excellent Southern Premier Cricket League club and we wish him all the best for the future,” said Paul Draper, South Wilts’ Head of Senior Cricket.
“The 13 seasons he spent with us, South Wilts have enjoyed one of the most successful periods in the club’s history and his contribution to our successes has been noteworthy.
“Warns has taken big wickets in big games to contribute to the team's success and he is a great person in the changing room and around the club.
“In more recent years, Warns has coached some of our juniors and our women’s and girls’ section and this has seen some real development at the cricket club.
“Everyone at South Wilts wishes Warns all the best in his new role and he will always be very welcome back at Bemerton, even as an opposition player !"
