Portsmouth have been granted planning permission by the city council to refurbish the 50-year old pavilion and clubhouse at the St Helen’s Ground on Southsea seafront.
The club raised almost £25,000 towards the cost of the project through Crowdfunder and donations, with Sport England chipping in £10,000. Work expected to start shortly after Easter. The club has long out-grown the existing pavilion which was built back in 1970 and is now badly in need of refurbishment.
The refurb will include:-
• A complete internal redesign of the pavilion, with a new entrance;
• Cladding and general external enhancements;
• Improvements to the ground floor changing, shower and toilet facilities, incorporating those for disabled persons and a flexible layout to accommodate women and girls;
• A roof top spectator balcony; and
• An improved bar and beer cellar.
Portsmouth play their first match at St Helen’s on Sunday week, April 11 when Liphook & Ripsley visit Southsea seafront.
