Southern Electric Premier Division new boys Sarisbury Athletic racked up a massive 338 against Bournemouth at Allotment Road – but it wasn’t enough !

The Dorset visitors polished off the target with 12 balls of the run-strewn 45-over match to spare.  A short boundary on one side of the ground contributed greatly towards the large totals, Archie Norris (78), Jack Lovett (73), debutant Ryan Covey (41) and Joe Lovett (33) all scoring quickly for Sarisbury.

Dave Banks plundered 53, including four successive sixes off Jake Hurley – only to perish trying to hit a fifth !   Amid the carnage, teenage spinner Robbie Pack (4-60) took a hat-trick for Bournemouth, for whom Salman Khattak returned 3-36.

Bournemouth hit back with South African Alan Badenhorst cracking 85 off 54 balls, including two sixes and 14 fours.   Badenhorst, who played for Eastern Province in the mid-1990s, has joined Bournemouth from the Central Lancashire League club Heywood.   He and Jake Hurley (79) added 109 before Martin Miller’s unbeaten 62 got Bournemouth home with two overs to spare.   Joe Lovett took 3-53 for Sarisbury.

South Wilts are piling up the runs, following up a massive 330-5 in their first friendly against Bournemouth with an equally impressive 325-6 on the delightful Falkland ground at Newbury.   Eddie Abel, who hit a century against Bournemouth, made 83, while Joe Cranch (65) and Tom Morton (60) also made their mark.    Former Hampshire all-rounder Hamza Riazhuddin smashed 165 of Falkland’s 300-run response, leaving South Wilts 25-run victors.

Teenager William Wade was also amongst the runs, making an unbeaten 107 as South Wilts II piled up 302-6 against Falkland II at Bemerton.    Opening partner Sam Pittman (65) and Ben Draper (50) also made runs in the sunshine before Falkland were dismissed for 156, Dominic Webb taking 4-36.

New Milton beat neighbours Lymington by six wickets in a last ball thriller at Fernhill.   Ryan Scott top scored in Lymington’s 191-6 – a target Milton chased down on the back of opener Mark House, who carried his bat for 74.   Matt Rose (29), Lee Beck (31) and Toby Edwards (26) made important contributions down the order.

Mitchell Stokes marked his return to Basingstoke & North Hants by scoring 77 against Guildford at Woodbridge Road, but was unable to spare his side a 76-run defeat.

Guildford recovered from an uncertain 87-4 to post 304-9, with New Zealander Matt Teale (83) and Ben Walter (72) leading the way.   Stokes (77) and Matt Thankachan (54 not out) eased Basingstoke’s reply to 228 all out.

Southampton University warmed up for their BUCS Championship opener against Bournemouth at Dean Park next Wednesday (12.30), with a 65-run win over Ventnor at Steephill.   Jo Murtagh (60) and Jake Fish (56) led the students to 189-6.  Ventnor were 124 all out.
