New Zealander Andrew Fletcher celebrated his Totton & Eling debut with a century in the encouraging 77-run victory over a Bashley (Rydal) XI at Southern Gardens.
The Wellington-based opener, who enjoyed a prolific season in Cherwell League cricket with Buckingham Town four seasons ago, hit a stylish 119 as Totton piled up 282-7. Fletcher, who was recommended to join the Eels by fellow Kiwi Neil Parlane, shared a century opening partnership with Tom Arnold (69). Tom Beresford weighed in with 43 not out as Totton batted Bashley out of the game.
Michael Porter (57) and Sam Thomson (53) made half-centuries in Bashley’s 205 all out (Mooney 3-57).
Newly promoted Calmore Sports pulled off an encouraging six-wicket win over Alton, whom they beat with 14 overs to spare. Michael Heffernan (70) and Scott Myers (46) eased Alton to a promising 118-3, but Mark Lavelle (4-29) and Ben Perry (2-21) slowed things down to leave the visitors 185-9. Lavelle’s 45 gave Calmore an important start, but it was Hampshire Under-17s left-hand prospect Ben Johns, who made an unbeaten 55 to win the day for Calmore.
Havant opener Pete Hopson cracked a six and 19 fours in an innings of 107 which set up an easy seven-wicket win over Sussex Premier League newcomers Billingshurst, who made 167-9.
Kieran Earl hit an unbeaten 124 as Fawley totalled 221-4 to win by 68 runs at Cadnam, who replied with 153-9 (James Bantock 43), Wayne Smith taking 3-8.
