After two wins in their opening three matches, Calmore Sports are relishing the chance of pitting their strengths against Bournemouth, one of the fancied British Gas Southern Premier Division 1 clubs.
Newly promoted, Calmore beat Hook & Newnham Basics and Liphook & Ripsley – but lost by 53 runs at Basingstoke & North Hants.
“Bournemouth will be a tough test for us. They look a very good side, so it is another chance for us to see what we can do against a top outfit,” says skipper Mark Lavelle, who is desperate for some runs at the top of the order.
Lavelle praised Australian spin all-rounder import Jack Rutter, who has already produced several good performances.
“Jack has fitted in really well both on and off the field - on the field he has a real knack of picking up key wickets at key times and really bulks up our middle order, and his fielding is up there with the best I have seen.”
James Manning has returned from Australia himself and debut against Bournemouth.
Calmore Sports: Lavelle, Newton, Johns, Perry, Rutter, Manning, Rose, Proudley, West, Pegler, Wright.
Bournemouth: Park, West, Matthews, C Park, Woodruff, Miller, Bollom, Pack, Clutterbuck, Michaelowski, Wilmore.
Basingstoke & North Hants and Liphook & Ripsley are both without key players for their May’s Bounty meet. Will Phillips misses out for the Bountymen, while Liphook captain Charles Janczur has a damaged hamstring.
Matt Journeaux returns to skipper Sarisbury Athletic, who have suffered two calamitous defeats to Ventnor and Basingstoke in the past fortnight.
They visit Rowledge – the first of a fistful of season-defining matches for Sarisbury. Rowledge have yet to get off the mark.
Rowledge: Morant, Gleave, Lloyd, Treble, Board, Metcalfe, Randall, B Wish, J Wish, Plater, Keeley.
Sarisbury Athletic: Rawlins, Journeaux, Floyd, Bolton, Sanders, Hill, Freemantle, Mills, Wright, Allmark, Jewell.
Former Ventnor captain Mark Holmes is getting married, so main ushers James Cheek and Neil Westhorpe are absent for the visit to Portsmouth’s St Helen’s seaside ground.
Youngsters John Buckman and Ben Herridge are called up, while James Christian is back for Portsmouth. Skipper Rob Snell plans a hovercraft dash from Ryde in time to toss the coin.
Portsmouth : Locke, Hay, J Marston J, Collier, Christian, Palmer-Goddard, Dawson, Hammond, Baines, A Marston, Whitecross.
Ventnor: Snell, Buckman, Herridge, Van Greunen, Miller, Attrill, Corbin, Blackman, Woodhouse, A Horton, Willis.
