Andrew Ireland (42) rescued Sarisbury Athletic from a desperate 92-9 to 126 all out – a target which Southern Premier Division One visitors Ventnor were hard pressed to chase down at Allotment Road.
The islanders did scrap in by two wickets, largely thanks to Ben Woodhouse, left, who followed an inspired display of wicket-keeping with a match-winning 25 not out.
Woodhouse complemented bowling performances by the Russell brothers, Chris (3-16) and Dan (3-28) with a catch and three stumpings, the last of which removed Ireland, who had struck three sixes and four boundaries in a frantic last wicket assault.
After Martin Blackman (28) and Chris Russell (20) had eased their reply to 65-2, Ventnor collapsed, spinner Sam Hill (3-26) putting the outcome back in the balance at 97-6.
But Woodhouse kept his cool, scoring a key 25 not out, Dan Russell assisting the cause by clouting a couple of timely fours as Ventnor finished a relived 127-8.
