Skipper Jeremy Frith led from the front with an unbeaten 98 as Southern Premier League Division 2 leaders Sparsholt cruised to a five-wicket win over Totton & Eling at the Norman Edwards Ground.
Their hold on SPL2 top spot was strengthened by Waterlooville’s unexpected nine-wicket defeat by Basingstoke & North Hants II, who had lost their previous four games.
Frith hit a six and 13 fours in his 98 and shared an important stand with Australian Sam O’Brien (55) as Sparsholt overhauled Totton’s 208-9 (Kieron Geyle 64) with ten overs to spare.
Chris Chandler was another captain to play the lead role – his new-ball spell of 5-23 wrecked Waterlooville’s top order and sent the visitors packing to 87 all out at May’s Bounty.  Craig Williamson (39 not out) and Chris Jolley (32) polished off the runs.
A staggering collapse saw Trojans lose nine wickets for 45 runs against Rowledge, who climbed into second place after a comfortable Stoneham Lane victory.
Trojans appeared set for a formidable total when Nigel le Bas (51) and Syed Mahmood (74) eased them to 1371-.
But, once parted, Trojans fell apart, four wickets falling for five runs at the mid-point of the innings which ended with the Stoneham side 182 all out.
David Lloyd (47), Sam Moseley (41), Fraser Wilson (37) and Chris Yates (28) swept Rowledge to victory and a confidence booster ahead of Sunday’s Village Cup home tie with East Sussex side Mayfield.
Paultons halted their downward slide with a seven-wicket win over St Cross Symondians II, who plunged to 102 all out.   A half-century by Nigel Feltham (54) hurried Paultons to a much needed victory.
