George Ayling smashed a whirlwind century off only 44 balls as Southern Electric Premier League, Division 2 newcomers Tichborne Park sped to an eight-wicket win over Hambledon in just 18.1overs.
The 19-year old flayed the Hambledon bowling in all directions, smashing five sixes and 14 fours in one of the fastest SPL hundreds on record. He made 103 and dominated a second-wicket stand of 125 with Martyn Cheyney (38 not out) as TP raced past Hambledon’s 157.
Left-hand opener Jack Lavous (64) held the Dons innings together as the Allam brothers Tom (4-25) and Will (3-33) combined with Queenslander Justin Reid (2-29) to roll the visitors over.
Craig Renders returned a career spin bowling best 7-23 as Langley Manor thrashed Premier Division 2 rivals Sparsholt by seven wickets at the Norman Edwards Ground.
Sparsholt appeared comfortable at 52-1 through Mike Haworth (21) and Australian Kyle Ruffell (26), but when Renders sent both batsmen back to the pavilion, the Winchester side fell apart.
The next nine wickets fell for 54 runs, Sparsholt crumbling to 106 all out, Simon Peters taking 2-26.
Sparsholt at least gleaned a bowling bonus point when they took three wickets, but Steve Harris thumped a quick fire 35 not out to complete the formalities.
Wayne Royan took 5-40 to bowl relegated Fawley to a narrow 12-run win over Old Tauntonians & Romsey at Holbury.
Bowling in tandem with Wayne Smith, Royan got five of the last six OTR wickets and thwarted a late order fightback.
Responding to Fawley’s 197-9, OTR dropped to 110-7 (Richard Newman 44), but Will Edwards (59) and Steve Smith (29) shared a half-century stand before the spin pair regained control and dismissed the visitors for 185.
Earlier, Tom Gates (36), Andy Parratt (34) and Royan (25) made contributions before Fawley slipped to 124-6.
Callum Earl (22) and James Woolgar (36) made key runs to raise Fawley’s score to 197-9.
Relegated last season, Hursley Park began on a positive note with a tight nine-run win over Bashley (Rydal) II, who won SPL3 last summer.
New skipper Matt Mettam (49), Gary Storey (42) and Matt Branford (42) top scored in HP’s 193-7.
Opener Simon Ridley, who followed up a 3-39 return with 81 runs, did his level best for Bashley, but when he was fifth out at 161, his side’s hopes effectively ended.
Bashley closed at 184-7.
Vickram Dawson, who played for Hursley Park last season, has returned to his old Portsmouth haunts and took 5-34 in the 23-run win over Paultons at St Helen’s, Southsea.
Dawson and Australian Pat Burns (5-27) shared all ten wickets before Jack Murrell’s 38 not out hauled Paultons up from 84-9 to 124 all out.
Ironically, Peter Lamb’s 6-25 was the best spell of the match, but Portsmouth wriggled out of trouble at 92-7 to post 147, former Portchester all-rounder Riche Locke (45) and Dave Henderson (41) their top scorers.
