Onwards and upwards.
That’s Fawley’s new slogan after celebrating their first victory of the season – a four-wicket win over Portsmouth & Southsea, last year’s Hampshire League champions.
They chased down the visitors’ 233 to get off the mark at the eighth attempt and narrow the gap between themselves, Lymington and Havant second teams.
“There’s precious little in it between the bottom three and we’ve got Havant and Gosport Borough to play in the coming weeks,” said long time Fawley batsman Andy Parratt.
“No one’s hammered us this season and we just felt this win was coming.
“Now we must move on.”
Wayne Smith (4-38) and Adam Freeman (3-53) took the bowling credits for Fawley, while Matt Benfield (left) hit 121 for P & S, only to finish on the losing side.
Parratt himself blazed a quick-fire 38 before Sufian Munir (36), Will Crossley (33) and teenage son Bailey Parratt (36) consolidated in the middle order.
Callum Earl’s an unbeaten 61 got Fawley home at 237-6 with five balls to spare.
Fawley’s survival prospects were boosted by fellow strugglers Havant, Lymington and Gosport Borough all losing.
