Fawley and Lymington seconds remain in the two Southern Premier League Division 3 relegation places after their potentially decisive basement battle was abandoned.
The ‘most win’ affair between the two New Forest ‘perimeter’ clubs was washed out in the 42nd over of the afternoon session, with Lymington handily placed at 181-5.
Skipper Oli Kelly (pictured) had made 54 and Guy Layman was 30 not out when the Holbury rains came.
The washout means Fawley going into their last three matches five points adrift of Gosport Borough, whose 36-run defeat by Havant II has the alarm bells ringing even louder at Privett Park.
Lymington, whose visit to Gosport on Saturday week will surely be crucial, are effectively nine points behind the Borough.
But they also have champions designate Fair Oak and South Wilts II still to play.
Gosport’s loss at Havant came after their hosts had posted 245-5, with Simon Loat hitting 90 and Andy Gorvin 51 not out. Kiwi teenager Liam Campbell made 74 as the Borough made 209 in reply, Gorvin taking 4-32.
Fourth placed Bashley Rydal’s home match with Hambledon was abandoned with the visitors’ 132-3.
