Fair Oak beat Portsmouth & Southsea by 116 runs – but needed Asad Abbas to dig them out of a hole first !
The clear Southern Premier League Division 3 leaders were 67-5 (Greig Stewart 29) against the spin of Kieron Dunstan (3-32) when Abbas arrived the crease.
Recently returned from a short spell at Portsmouth, the hard hitting Abbas struck a run-a-ball 63 to kick start Fair Oak’s recovery.
Charlie Gwynn (21) and Gregor McKenzie (21) added useful runs, before last pair Richard Featherstone (33) and Ross Stewart (18) shared an unbroken 54 for the tenth wicket.
A total of 238-9 proved way beyond P & S, who were bemused by the leg spin of Rufus Bullough (4-25) and bowled out for 122.
Bashley (Rydal) overcame the vagaries of a problematic Privett Park surface to dismiss struggling Gosport Borough for 111 and boost their own promotion prospects with a seven-wicket win.
With the ball frequently ‘popping’ as it went through the surface, batting was a trying experience and only Tom Larner (37) was able to made much impact in Borough’s 111 all out.
Alex Turner (36), Sam Kennett (34) and James Underwood (27) saw Bashley home.
Bashley are 29 points clear of third placed South Wilts, who checked their own uncertain form and ended Fawley’s three-match winning spurt with a seven-wicket success against the oilmen.
Opener Kieran Earl (54) top scored for Fawley, with Adam Freeman making an unbeaten 30 down the order – spinner Tom Pearce (3-15) and Matt Burton (3-47) sharing six of the wickets.
Wiltshire Under-17 all-rounder Jack Stearman piloted South Wilts’ run chase with an unbeaten 75, enjoying support from Owain Phillips (33) and Rob Pittman, who brought a speedy end to affairs with six fours in his 27 not out.
The situation continues to look grim for Lymington II, who look set for an immediate return to County Division 1 cricket, from which they were promoted last season.
An unbeaten 50 by tailender Guy Layman rescued Lymington from a dismal 57-7 (Conor Moors 38) to a more respectable 169 all out in response to Purbrook’s 197 (Alex Cox 44).
Lymington’s position was further weakened by Havant’s nine-wicket thrashing of Hambledon (153-9), openers Andrew Galliers (66) and Andrew Ruston (40) having shared a 98-run stand.
Ian Turner (48) nudged waiting Hampshire Over-50 selectors with a late knock for the Dons, for whim Spencer le Clerq made 40. Ruston also 4-19 for Havant.
