The outcome of the ECB Southern Premier and Division 1 championships remain undecided until the final round of matches next Saturday, September 3.
St Cross Symondians’ lead at the top of the Premier has been trimmed to four points by the Hampshire Academy who pulled a five-wicket win out of the hat at Totton & Eling. St Cross chased down Bournemouth’s 264-3 to win a pulsating affair by two wickets at the Green Jackets,
St Cross must win their final match at fourth-placed Bashley (Rydal) and at the same time ‘out point’ the Academy who visit now relegated Hook & Newnham Basics.
It’s even tighter in Division 1 where just two points separate leaders Alton from Sarisbury Athletic, who both won their penultimate round matches, the Brewers by a commanding eight-wickets over relegated Liphook & Ripsley, and Sarisbury Athletic by three wickets over similarly demoted Sparsholt.
Hambledon clinched the Division 2 title in style with a 99-run win at strengthened Bashley (Rydal) II and will go up alongside potential runners-up Andover. The situation at the bottom remains unresolved. Fawley, Bashley (Rydal) and Hook & Newnham Basics all lost round 17 games, but can still stay up if they win their last match.
Portsmouth & Southsea have won Division 3, with Langley Manor needing four points from next week’s visit from Sway to be promoted. Winless Purbrook and Basingstoke & North Hants II are down, with any promotion of Hampshire League champions Compton & Chandler’s Ford and runners-up Parley into the Premier pyramid subject to normal accreditation procedures.
