Josh Digby has stepped down as Bashley (Rydal) captain after a fourth successive defeat by the Hampshire Academy left the 2019 champions marooned at the foot of the ECB Southern Premier Division table.
Explaining his decision, Digby said: "I gave the club a good commitment last year doing the captaincy, and this year with work and coaching commitments, I have decided going forward it's in the best interest that I should step aside for the remainder of the season.
"I am still committed to playing and am struggling with a back injury at the moment but I want the best for the club going forwards."
Michael Porter, who led Bashley to the 2019 title, takes the captain's armband for tomorrow's Kings of the Forest derby with Lymington and will be boosted by the return of Dan Goodey, Sussex left-arm seamer Brad Currie and Patrick Lewis, who made a 2nd XI century on his return from university last weekend.
