Champions South Wilts have their fingers crossed that lightning doesn’t strike twice when they host Lymington in the second round of ECB Southern Electric Premier League matches at Bemerton.
Lymington beat South Wilts during the Salisbury club’s title run-in last season – ironically, the day after they had been resoundingly thrashed in the Southern Electric twenty20 Cup final under the Ageas Bowl floodlights.
Simon Beetham leads a stronger-looking Lymington side, one which will be confident after beating St Cross Symondians handsomely last weekend.
But Darren Cowley, the centurion and five-wicket bowling hero at the Green Jackets Ground, is missing – as is Sean Terry, who has been called up for Hampshire’s LV=County Championship visit to title holders Yorkshire at Headingley.
Chris Jennings replaces Cowley, while the in-form Joe Cranch steps in for Terry.
South Wilts is fully conscious of the threat Lymington pose, saying: “Lymington certainly started well last week.
“I think this will be a different challenge for us, they have a very disciplined bowling attack and some dangerous batsmen.
South Wilts: Morton, Abel, Riddle, Cranch, Hayward, Hibberd, Duffield, Franklin, Foley, Pain, Warner.
Lymington: Ben Rogers, Dom Hand, Lewis McManus, Ryan Scott, Damien Edwards, Simon Beetham, Ed Ellis, Matt Metcalfe, Ben Ashkenazi, Chris Jennings, Ed Freeman
