Four cricketers who spent some of their embryo summers playing in the Southern Premier League, appeared in this weekend’s opening One Day International between Australia and South Africa at the Perth Stadium.
Travis Head (Ventnor), Chris Lynn (Gosport Borough) and Glenn Maxwell (South Wilts) played in an Australia side dismissed for 152 and beaten by six wickets. Heinrich Klaasen, who spent two summers with Purbrook as a teenager, was in the victorious South Africa side.
Lewis McManus bagged four catches behind the stumps playing for Camberwell Magpies as Casey South Melbourne posted 329-9 after day one of their Victorian Premiership match.
Hampshire team-mate Joe Weatherley will shortly be joining Ian Holland and playing for Ringwood, the home club of one-time Havant all-rounder Len Hayes-Rosario.
Hampshire Academy all-rounder Tom Scriven joint top scored and later knocked over both opposition opening batsmen, but was unable to spare Broadbeach Robina from a seven-wicket defeat by Burleigh in Queensland’s Gold Coast League.
Scriven made 37 as Broadbeach, rocked by three early losses including Felix Organ (lbw 5), made 153-8 and then took 2-20 with the new ball.
Bournemouth’s Luke Matthews cracked his second half-century in three knocks for St Peter’s Old Collegians in the Adelaide A1 Premier Turf League.
He made 52 on debut against Walkersville, 48 versus Payneham and made 56 in the current match against Goodwood. St Peter’s made 225 and have Goodwood 26-3 overnight.
Also wintering in South Australia is New Milton’s Raff Hussey, who has joined the Darren Lehmann Academy and is assigned to Port Adelaide, who had Jason Roy, Sam Billings and Harry Came on their books in recent times.
South Wilts pair Ben Draper (33) and Luke Evans (21) helped Parkdale score 268 against McKinnon in the Southern Bayside Championship in Victoria.
