Three members of Alton’s championship winning side are included in the Southern Premier League’s Division 1 Team of the Year, finally announced after a lengthy selection debate.
Scott Myers and Dan Harris, each with over 700 runs, are among the six specialist batsmen picked, alongside South African Bash Walters, whose 39 wickets was the highest in Division 1.
Sri Lankan Dineth Thimodya, rumoured to be making a Ventnor return in 2023, fills the opening slot with Calmore left-hander Ben Johns, whose team-mate Liam Carty gets one of the spinner slots. Martin Blackman’s remarkable 701-run season gets him a middle-order place.
Joe Oates, who stepped into the Basingstoke & North Hants captain’s shoes midway through the summer, has nailed one of the seam all-rounder spots.
