Bashley (Rydal) will need their batsmen to fire if they are to begin their ECB Southern Premier Division championship defence on a positive note against South Wilts at Bemerton tomorrow, 11.30.
The pre-season didn’t go well for the Bash, who were skittled for 121 at Normandy last week and 147 by Wokingham. They lost both games.
To add to skipper Michael Porter’s concerns, 2019 Premier Division batting award winner Tom Friend is a significant absentee at Wilton Road.
Bashley shouldn’t have too many problems scoring runs at Bemerton, where the early season tracks have been a batsmen’s paradise, with South Wilts racking up 317 against the Academy last week and opener Tom Morton already in awesome form.
Porter will need to tell inexperienced duo Sam Crisp and Sam Stroud not to drop it short to Morton – otherwise they could be playing fetch ball from some neighbouring gardens.
School teaching commitments at Eastbourne College will rule influential all-rounder Jack Mynott out for the initial four weeks of white ball 50-over matches.
South Wilts: Morton, Stearman, Hussey, Hayward, Draper, Rowe, Godsal, Grant, Harries, Lewis, Burton.
Bashley (Rydal): Alex Turner, Josh Digby, Jacob Gordon, Michael Porter, Harry Fisher, Tom Jacques, Mitch Wilson, George Wilson, Sam Stroud, Brad Currie, Sam Crisp.
THERE WILL BE ONE MINUTE'S SILENCE BEFORE THE START OF PLAY IN ALL MATCHES IN MEMORY OFF ALL VICTIMS OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.

Hook & Newnham Basics make their long awaited Premier Division bow at Havant, having been crowned SPL1 champions some 20 months ago.

This ‘ceremony’ will normally take place in the visitors’ changing room but with the Havant Park changing rooms closed under Covid regulations, it will have to take place on the boundary.
“It think the four lads are more nervous about the singing bit than actually playing,” chuckled Hook team manager Vince Gardner.
