PREMIER 'WHITE BALL' CRICKET PLANS HIT FOR SIX

19/11/2015

Proposals to introduce ‘white ball’ cricket into Southern Premier Division 50-over matches were hit for six at the SPL’s AGM.
Six of the ten Premier Division clubs voted in favour of a Management Committee proposal to bring in coloured clothing etc. for 2016, but the four who voted against it meant the required rule change did not get the necessary two-third’s majority.
Clubs also blocked proposals for –
• Second XIs to have an overseas player, under 23 years of age;
• Earlier 12.30pm start times (even though 78 per cent of cricketers canvassed last season wanted the 1pm start time brought forward); and
• Point penalties for slow over rates to speed up matches.
Teams will, however, be able to have players’ names and numbers on shirts.
