HOOK and Newnham Basics continued their march towards the Southern League Division One crown with an emphatic nine-wicket victory over visiting Sarisbury Athletic.
Sarisbury skipper Ricky Rawlins won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat – a decision which soon came back to haunt him as Martyn James (pictured centre), back from injury, removed the top four batsmen on his way to a 4-21 return. Opener Rawlins was one of the four men out leaving the visitors on 24-4.
At the other end Jack Murrell bowled just as tight conceding just 29 runs but ended with no reward from his 10 overs.
Sarisbury’s Josh Hill (34) and Daniel Clouting (18) started to repair some of the damage as they added 49 for the fifth wicket, but they were parted by teenage left-armer Liam Shore (3-31), while Anik Divecha returned 2-15 from his 10 overs as Hook stayed in control.
Chris Sanders (36), batting at number seven, was Sarisbury’s top scorer and was the last man out as he was caught by Will Gardner off the bowling of Daniel Moore (right above) as the National Village Cup semi-finalists were dismissed for 144.
The Hook reply was never in trouble thanks to openers Harry Robson (66) and Moore. Teen Robson (top left) was the only man out bowled by Tom Kitcher with the score on 129 and his fine knock off 75 balls saw him hit nine fours and two sixes.
Moore and Kieran Thomson completed off the job in 31st over, with Moore finishing on 61 not out, including 11 fours.
