Andover’s hopes of British Gas Southern Premier Division survival are almost over.
A crushing nine-wicket defeat at Bashley (Rydal) has left them marooned at the foot of the table, with Alton needing only three points from Saturday’s visit to Burridge to ensure their own safety.
Spinner Sam Thompson (3-13) and Surrey prospect Bradley Currie (3-28) shared six of the wickets as Andover were dismissed for 142 (Glyn Treagus 32), with tail-end duo Mike Adams (26) and Ajeet Dale (22) sparing their side from a double-figure total.
Josh Digby (pictured by Terry Nash), with a 14-four 83 not out, and Phil Morris (42) swept Ashley to a comprehensive victory.
New Milton have lived to fight another season in the Premier Division after thrashing St Cross Symondians by nine wickets at Fernhill.
They took only 33 overs to bowl the Winchester visitors out for 103 – teenager George Watts (3-40) and veteran left-armer Nick Gargaro (3-39) sharing six of the wickets - a total they polished off, with Tom Arnold hitting an unbeaten 53.
