ROWLEDGE BLOWN AWAY AS JOE LAYS DOWN THE LAW

Rowledge lost the first three wickets for three runs and their last five for only seven more as they crashed to 59 all out and a 70-run defeat against Portsmouth, who had been bowled out for 129 themselves on windswept Southsea seafront.
Former Portsmouth Grammar School captain, prefect, all-rounder Joe Kooner-Evans, now studying law at Swansea university, did the damage with a 4-13 return, while the immaculate Andy Marston (1-5 off five overs), Henry Woolf and Dan Wallis shared six other visiting scalps.  
The demanding windy conditions made it difficult for batsmen and bowlers alike – Rowledge left-armer Jake Wish sending down a succession of wides as Portsmouth quickly put 30 runs on the board before David Lloyd (with a 2-10 off his eight overs) triggered a partial collapse.
The promising Ethan Martin (3-30) created further inroads before James Christian (32), aided by Henry Woolf (18), improved Portsmouth’s lot to 127-7.  Then Ricky Yates took 3-32 to finish things off.
On paper, Rowledge had a decent batting line up – Ollie Baker, Jake Wish and David Lloyd were 8, 9 and ten – but within minutes of the restart Sam Plater, Ethan Martin and Chris Yates were back in the pavilion at 3-3.
Jontie Sebborn (19) saw five different partners come and go before departing himself at 52-6 and soon after the innings ended inside the 26th over.  Twenty wickets had fallen for 188 runs, a fair few to some pretty ordinary batting …
