ROWLEDGE INVESTMENT IN YOUTH PAYING EARLY DIVIDENDS

The investment Rowledge are putting into their junior cricket continues to pay dividends – almost on a weekly basis !
The bulk of the side captain Ben Wish has under his wing were finalists in Surrey’s powerful Under-19 T20 last season, so it is no real surprise they’ve won three of their opening four Southern Premier Division 1 matches, including ending Totton & Eling’s unbeaten start last weekend.
His squad includes three 15-year olds – Ethan Martin, Olly Ryman and Ryan Littlewood – all of whom made a significant contribution in Totton’s two-wicket last over demise.
Decidedly sharp for his age, Martin bowled Dorset based opener Harrison Clarke for a fourth ball duck while Ryman and Littlewood came to the party with the pressure firmly on after Rowledge had slipped to 44-5 chasing Totton’s 155-9.
While Odiham & Greywell raised Zac Le Roux pictured (45) played a lynchpin role, Ryman (twice) and Littlewood swatted sixes during key support roles which clawed Rowledge right back into the game, which they won with five balls to spare, courtesy of a text book winning boundary by Wish himself.
“I couldn’t be prouder of those boys, they were superb” Wish said. “Zac’s innings showed great maturity.”
Totton, who rotated their three spinners with Toby Green and Ethan Taylor taking three wickets each, were in a spot of bother themselves at 100-7 – the evergreen David Lloyd captured the prize wicket of James Taylor (29) in conceding only nine runs off his eight overs – before Hakim Peruzi smashed a quick fire 43 to provide them with what proved a challenging total.
"The only downside was Jake (my brother) splitting the webbing in his hand taking a sharp caught and bowled. It meant he was unable to bat and the order having to be shuffled about, but it gave opportunities - and responsibilities - to the others, which they seized," Wish.
