Roy Cockram marked his Hartley Wintney return after a six-year absence with a match winning innings against Southern Premier League Division 2 visitors Paultons.
He made 82 and later took the prize wicket of Australian George Condon as Hartley celebrated a 48-run win.
A one-time Hampshire Academy prospect, Cockram rescued Hartley Wintney from a worrying 101-5 (Jason Knibbs 52) to 223-8 (Robert Pike 3-54), his innings containing four sixes and nine fours.
A half-century by Condon (51) eased Paultons to 87-2, but the innings fell apart against Angus Brown (4-43) and it needed a late salvo from Peter Lamb (28), aided by 35 wides, to get the visitors to 175.
Charlie Gwynn (4-28), who won the SPL3 bowling award for promoted Fair Oak last season, was prominent in his side’s narrow 16-run win over Basingstoke & North Hants II at Lapstone Park.
Oaks successfully defended a modest 132 (Phil Smith 32), bowling Basingstoke out for 116, with Gwynn prominent.
The father and son combination of James and Ethan Taylor helped engineer a 35-run win for undefeated Totton & Eling over St Cross Symondians II at the Green Jackets Ground.
The pair hit 84 and 49, respectively, as Totton eased to 267-8, while St Cross were seldom in the picture at 97-5. Jack Middleton (71) and James Allen (50) helped their reply to 232 all out, Ethan Taylor and Brighton Mugochi (who earlier made 32) sharing six of the wickets.
Waterlooville looked out for the count at 59-6 – Simon Peters (3-32) and Jamie Brown (2-13) doing the new ball damage – but through Max Goddard (38) fought back to post 147. Visitors Langley Manor lost wickets down the order (Archie Reynolds 3-20) and were indebted to skipper Jack Budd (40) and late on Ben Morgan for getting them across the line by one wicket.
