Ryan Burl, who helped South Wilts win the 2014 ECB Southern Premier League title and played for Sarisbury Athletic the following season, made his Test debut for his native Zimbabwe against South Africa in Port Elizabeth this week.
But South Africa romped to victory by an innings and 120 runs inside two days of the scheduled 4-day Day/Night match, posting 309-9 dec (Aiden Markham 125) before rolling out Zimbabwe for a meagre 68 and then 121 in the second innings.
The 23-year old left-hand all-rounder hit a battling 16 in the first innings (he was one of only two batsmen to make double figures) before Morne Morkel (5-21) sent his off-stump cart-wheeling. Burl claimed a fourth ball duck in the second.
Burl became the 36th former Southern League/Southern Premier League cricketer to play a Test match.
He had previously played nine ODIs and was chosen for Zimbabwe A's 1-day series against the UAE and Scotland earlier this season.
